Bulbtronics’ Battery Issue
Searching Bulbtronics.com
Did you know the first battery was created over 200 years ago? It was called the Voltaic Pile – invented by Alesandro Volta in 1799 by piling alternating disks of zinc and copper separated by felt soaked in brine. The Voltaic pile revolutionized the use of electricity and gave the world the electric current. Today, the battery is used in all marketplaces for multiple applications. We can’t live without them!
What sets Bulbtronics apart is our huge selection of battery types and chemistries. We supply thousands of batteries from Duracell, Eveready, Rayovac, Panasonic and other battery manufacturers. We also stock batteries for specialized applications like power tools, two-way radios and stage, theatre and video equipment. Shop by brand, price and/or packing – large and small quantities! Batteries…Facts and Fables
FACT: “Think that one kind of battery is fine for all your gear? Think again. The best cell for your digital camera isn’t the best value for your CD player, our new tests show…. Pick the wrong battery for your camera and it could die in 37 minutes.” – Consumer Reports-November 2006
HINT:We recommend the Panasonic Oxyride – More Information
FACT: Over 30 Billion batteries were purchased worldwide last year.
FACT: There are 2 main battery types: Primary (non-rechargeable) and the Secondary (rechargeable). Primary batteries include alkaline/manganese, carbon-zinc, mercury-oxide, zinc-air, silver-oxide, and other types of button batteries. Secondary batteries (rechargeable) include lead-acid, nickel-cadmium (NiCad), and nickel-metal-hydride (NiMH)
FACT: Some batteries should be put in the refrigerator
For alkaline batteries, room temperature is the best option. They retain 90% of their power. Storage in a refrigerator only extends their life by less than 5%. Remember - you can’t use cold batteries right away (you have to let them warm up to room temperature).
For rechargeable batteries like Nickel Metal Halide (NiMH) and Nickel Cadmium (NiCad) – refrigeration is much more useful. When storing NiMH and NiCad batteries at room temp, they lose charge daily; but when refrigerated, they retain 90% of their charge!
FABLE: Quick charge is the best charge for rechargeable batteries
A “Quick charge (charges within 2-4 hours)” – is not the best way to recharge NiMH batteries. The use of a quick charger actually reduces a battery’s life. For the best result, use the charger associated with the brand/manufacturer of the battery
The overnight (slow) charger also has the same effect in that it is needs to be unplugged after a certain amount of hours. Like quick charging, overnight charging also reduces the life of a NiMH battery.
FACT: Improper disposal of batteries actually increases hazardous chemicals/wastes in the environment.
