Alkaline batteries stored at "room temperature" self discharge at a rate of less than 2% a year. However, if alkaline batteries are stored at higher
temperatures they will loose capacity much quicker. At 85 degrees F, batteries lose approx.. 5% a year, at 100 degrees F they lose approx.. 25%.
A BATTERY IS...
A group of cells, usually portable, that generates electricity through an electrochemical reaction. This is accomplished through the transfer of
electrons between two unlike metal electrodes that are immersed in an ion conducting medium or "electrolyte". The negative electrode(anode)
loses electrons which are gained by the positive electrode(cathode). When the two electrodes are connected to an external circuit "load" such as
a light bulb, the circuit is completed and electric current is created.
